Music Ministry
Chanters and Readers
Our Music Ministry serves the parish by chanting at all church services. Our Director of Music Ministry and Protopsaltis (chief cantor), Nicolette "Nicki" Panagopoulos, directs the Choir and selects the texts and repertoire used in the services.
The music used for worship is a mix of western notation developed by the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians and ecclesiastical Byzantine chant, emulating the traditional forms found in Greece. Our music is entirely vocal, and we sing in Greek, English, Arabic, and Spanish.
Our choir participants commit themselves to learning the hymns of the Church and understanding the sacred order of liturgical worship. Our chior is made up of men, women, and children—sing antiphonally from the Solea. The skills needed to participate in these choirs include the willingness to learn western notation, to sing in tune, and to read English and phonetic Greek (if they don't read Greek). In addition to singing on Sundays, Feastdays, and Holy Week, we provide our services for Sacraments of the Church such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
